Tsathoggua is a cosmic entity in Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. Tsathoggua is also known as the Sleeper of N’kai and Zhothaqquah.
Tsathoggua is described as,
“He was very squat and pot-bellied, his head was more like a monstrous toad than a deity, and his whole body was covered with an imitation of short fur, giving somehow a vague sensation of both the bat and the sloth. His sleepy lids were half-lowered over his globular eyes; and the tip of a queer tongue issued from his fat mouth.”
Tsathoggua sleeps deep beneath the earth in N’kai. Tsathoggua once resided inside Mount Voormithadreth in Hyberborea, but left to live under N’kai after Hyberborea iced over. Tsathoggua’s will is carried out by the Formless Spawn. The Formless Spawn are polymorphic entities made out of black ichor. Their extreme resilience makes them hard to defeat. Formless spawn can take any shape.
A Formless Spawn is flexible and plastic-like, it can change it’s shape into almost a fully liquid form and enter places through cracks or small holes. Attacks are completed by trampling their targets, biting them, or crushing them with the epic strength of the Formless Spawn’s grasp.
Formless spawn often rest in basins in Tsathoggua’s temples and keep the sanctuary from being defiled by nonbelievers. Tsathoggua is worshiped by the Voormis who are described as three-toed, umber-colored, fur-covered humanoids. The Voormis communicate by dog-like howls.
The Voormis created a rich culture on the surface of Hyperborea before the coming of humans. However with the coming of man and constant warfare, their civilization eventually fell. Warfare with the Voormis’s archenemies, the Gnophkeh, the caused the Voormis to shrink in number until the remaining retreated to the highest slopes of the Eiglophian mountains. In the Eiglophian mountains they were later hunted for sport my humans.
